IDENTITY RECLAMATION THERAPY
She is still there. Let’s find her.
Bilingual identity reclamation therapy for women who no longer recognize themselves outside the roles they carry. In person in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and virtually throughout Florida via telehealth.
What many women experience in midlife is a sign that something important is asking for attention. Therapy is a space to respond to that signal.
When you cannot remember the last time you asked yourself what you wanted.
There is a particular kind of loss that does not come from one event. It is not a divorce, a diagnosis, or an empty nest; it is a quiet loss. The slow disappearance of a person underneath years of being useful, the mother, the wife, the daughter, the one who holds it together, the one everyone else counts on. It happens so gradually that you rarely notice it happening. You answer "I'm fine" so many times that you stop checking if it's true. You get so good at reading what everyone else needs that you lose the habit of asking yourself what you need.
Somewhere along the way, being needed started to feel like the only proof that you mattered. This is not a personality trait. It is what happens when a woman spends years, sometimes decades, organizing herself around what everyone else requires, until the parts of her that were never useful to anyone else quietly go unused, and eventually feel unfamiliar.
You may not be able to name what's wrong. You are not in crisis, and you are functioning. But something feels hollow, or borrowed, or like you are watching your own life from a slight distance.
Signs that this may be what you are experiencing include:
You struggle to answer simple questions about what you like, want, or need.
You feel guilty or anxious the moment you consider prioritizing yourself.
You have become so responsive to everyone else's needs that your own barely register anymore.
You feel like a stranger in your own life, even when things look fine from the outside.
You over-identify with being needed, capable, or "the strong one".
You have a hard time knowing where you end and your roles begin.
You feel resentment you cannot quite justify, because everything looks fine on paper.
These are not flaws to fix. They are the natural result of self-abandonment practiced for a long time, and they can be unlearned.
What identity reclamation therapy with me can offer you.
This work is not about becoming someone new. It's about returning to someone who has been buried, not erased. In our work together, we can move toward:
naming your own needs, wants, and preferences without apologizing for them
separating your sense of worth from how useful you are to others
setting boundaries that hold, without the guilt that used to stop you
reconnecting with your voice, your opinions, and your own definition of a good life
understanding the patterns, cultural, familial, or personal, that taught you to disappear
building a relationship with yourself that does not depend on anyone else's approval
We'll start by getting curious, without judgment, about how you learned that your needs were too much, or too inconvenient, or simply beside the point. From there, we do the slower work of finding out who you are when you are not performing a role for someone else, what you actually think, want, and value, separate from what is expected of you. With clinical training, bilingual fluency, and lived understanding of what it means to hold multiple identities at once, I can support you as you find your way back to yourself.
I want you to know:
You are not gone. You have just been unavailable to yourself for a while.
Imagine knowing your own mind again, what you want on an ordinary Tuesday, what you believe, what you would choose if no one else's expectations were in the room. Imagine relating to yourself the way you would want a close friend to be treated: with patience, curiosity, and respect.
That future is possible.
